China Launched a Blockchain Satellite
China achieved a historic milestone on July 22, 2023, by getting to be the pioneer in launching a satellite incorporating groundbreaking blockchain-based innovations. The remarkable technology, known as Tai'an Star Era 16, features an onboard blockchain-based system, setting a completely new standard for space missions.
The system is called "ADAChain," though it does not have a direct relation to Cardano, as far as we know. NationStar, the agency behind this project, has developed a special system that utilizes blockchain to securely store certificates and records related to on-orbit activities. The satellite is also outfitted with state-of-the-art, advanced sensors that are capable of capturing hyperspectral imagery of the Earth's surface.
Thanks to the innovations, the developers will be able to get a lot of valuable information about target areas on the Chinese territory. This will allow them to receive necessary data for agriculture, management of water and other resources among other highly significant tasks.
Here are the main functionalities of the satellite:
- Video visual broadcasting.
- Multi-signature authentication.
- Visual remote sensing data storage certificate confirmation.
In March 2023, it became known that China is developing a whole network of satellites based on quantum communications. Additionally, the European Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States are looking into these technologies for space missions.
This launch is proof that blockchain technologies can have numerous applications in space-related industries. In the future, we will be able to evaluate the results, and it might motivate other countries to join the 21st century’s edition of the Space Race.
