What is Sandbox (SAND)?

Sandbox is a gaming platform operating on Ethereum. It is a community-driven Metaverse where users create and customize their own world out of blocks called voxels and interact with other players. The important distinction is that the items users create in the game are NFTs that belong to the players and can be monetized. Players can also buy LANDS - parts of the world of the Metaverse where they can create their own games, host events, etc.

SAND is an ERC-20 utility token used on the platform for various transactions and interactions. Participants can also stake SAND and use it for governance, as well as win the token in different play-to-earn tournaments.

What is The Sandbox Alpha Season 3?

Sandbox Alpha Seasons are a series of events that take place on the Sandbox platform. They are created to draw more people to the Metaverse to experience the gameplay, interact with other users, and try to win SAND tokens in various competitions, quests, and so on.

The Sandbox Alpha Season 3 started on August 24, 2022. This time, it lasted for 10 weeks, which is a new record. The first season took 3 weeks in November and December 2021, and the second event — 4 weeks in March 2022.

What activities were available in Season 3?

Compared to the previous seasons, not only was this one longer, but it also was more diverse in terms of experiences at the users’ disposal: there were over 90 of them this time, which is all the more impressive compared to the first season which offered just 18. These interactive experiences took place in 4 different digital spaces:

  1. Alpha lobby where the players came first, learned about the platform, and enjoyed various multiplayer games.
  2. XYZ club with DJ Steve Aoki — a land where users could come for a digital party. There were also some multiplayer quests to complete.
  3. WMG (Warner Music Group) land where they combined a concert venue with a digital treasure hunt.
  4. Sueco’s Split Personalities — a land for several single-player quests.

Not all of the activities implied competing for points though. For example, there was a social hub called A Love is Forever aimed at bringing people together. For this purpose, there were a club, a bar, and other places where users could meet, play or even get married.

All the in-game challenges could be played several times, so users had the opportunity to master a particular quest and earn a lot of points.

What were the rules of participation?

Users could take part for free, but they needed to connect a Web 3.0 wallet first and download the game on their PC. What’s more, in order to be able to win prizes, participants must have an Alpha pass (which can be won in the game or purchased), a LAND, or a different Sandbox NFT. These gave access to guaranteed prizes which depend on the players’ levels (from 5 to 60 SAND).

In season 3, the project distributed 1.5M SAND tokens among the leaderboard's best players. The winner whose username is OnlySmile won 30,000 SAND. Other rewards were distributed as follows:

  1. top 10 winners — 5,000 SAND
  2. places 11 to 200 — 1,500 SAND
  3. places 201 to 1000 — 750 SAND
  4. places 1,000 to 5000 — 60 SAND

What did the participants think?

Many users shared the opinion that they had a lot of fun playing the games and were glad they got to interact with such an innovative product. They shared their digital avatars and the results at the end of the season. The Sandbox Alpha Season 3 content image

Some users suspected cheating from the top players, however, Sandbox tried to prevent this as much as possible through the KYC (Know Your Customer) system with verification of accounts.

There were also some users who experienced bugs but a lot of them simply thanked the team for their hard work.

Conclusion

Overall, it seems that the project has achieved a lot for a relatively short period of time Sandbox Alpha Seasons exist. With the amount of possibilities blockchain technologies bring to the world of gaming, we can probably expect even more interactive activities from both Sandbox and other projects. That is why it is definitely worth keeping an eye on the developments in this sphere. SimpleSwap is here to help you with this, so stay tuned!
